Jahangirnagar University is a fully residential government autonomous research university located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Jahangirnagar University is known as the cultural capital for its wide variety of liberal arts, intellectual and cultural activities.
Jahangirnagar, a haven of natural and bio-diversity, is one of the leading universities in the country. Jahangirnagar is playing one of the most important roles in research and various academic fields in the field of higher education in the country. Jahangirnagar is one of the best schools in dance, acting, drama and folk culture. The institute is located in Savar near Dhaka with an area of about 697.56 acres.
In 1970, when Pakistan was ruling over us, the 'Jahangirnagar Muslim University Ordinance 1970' incentive was imposed to ease the pressure on Dhaka University. Under this, preparations are made to establish 'Jahangirnagar Muslim University' with 697.5 acres of land. This place is located in remote Savar and is a place of unearthly beauty in the lap of nature. Surat Ali Khan was the Project Director of this project.
This university started its journey on August 20, 1970. Four days after that, Professor Mofiz Uddin Ahmed was appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor of the University on 24th August. Later, famous poet Syed Ali Ahsan, folklorist Mazharul Islam, writer Zillur Rahman Siddiqui, AFM Kamaluddin, Amirul Islam Chowdhury, economists Abdul Bayes, Alauddin Ahmed, Khandkar Mustahidur Rahman and others served as vice-chancellors of this university.

After independence, in 1973 the word 'Muslim' was dropped from the name of the university with the passing of 'Jahangirnagar University Ordinance, 1973' and the university came to be known as 'Jahangirnagar University'.
Ever since the establishment of the university, the undergraduate program started with a total of 150 students and 21 teachers in these four departments – Economics, Geography, Statistics, Mathematics.
It used to be a fully residential public university, Jahangirnagar University now has 36 departments and six faculties with four institutes, with an enrollment of more than fifteen thousand students and about five hundred academicians engaged in teaching and research. The Jahangirnagar University campus is situated 30 km from the main Dhaka, connected to the highway, with its vast beauty. The National Assembly of Independent Bangladesh accepted its charter in 1973 under which the university is being run.
Located in Savar, adjacent to Dhaka, Jahangirnagar University is one of the best universities in Bangladesh. The university is residential. It was formally launched on 12 January 1971 by its Chief Justice Rear Admiral SM Ahsan, Governor of East Pakistan. After the development of Bangladesh, the government approved the Jahangirnagar University Act. In 1973, which revoked the earlier approval and renamed the university as Jahangirnagar University.
About: Jahangirnagar University (JU) | |
Name: | Jahangirnagar University Public University August 20, 1970 The Jahangirnagar University Act, 1973 1st July to 30th June Savar, Dhaka, Bangladesh, 1342 697.56 acres |
Jahangirnagar University, a strange place in this world, which is like a green paradise. To understand the correctness of the name one must step there, then it seems that the ideal form of that creation will be seen.
There are different types of greenery all around, and all the red colored buildings stand as a symbol of nobility. The reflection of the building in the water of the lake, because of the small waves in the water, the reflection constantly vibrates. Where the union of sky and water creates a wonderful environment, there it becomes a small wave, a resting place for birds. This is our place of prosperity and self-realization, Jahangirnagar.
Be it the lake of London Bridge, experiencing the landscape of bird migration on a winter afternoon, or the quiet atmosphere of Santiniketan next to the Rabindranath Tagore Hall, the occasional sound of the crisp wind blowing through the dense foliage evokes the strange mysteries of a wonderfully aristocratic colorful nature. To see all these things, you have to come to Jahangirnagar.
Just as Jahangirnagar University, like a green paradise, will charm you in its own form, as a cultural capital, Jahangirnagar University presents itself in a cultural form. Here in Bengal there are thirteen Parbans in twelve months, and in Jahangirnagar University, it seems like twenty-four Parbans! Every month there is some kind of festival going on in the campus, be it an anniversary of a department or an academic conference. In the festival, there will be open stage plays, concerts, sports, fairs, domestic and foreign film screenings in the auditorium and many other fun events.
However, among the most joy-free days on campus are University Day and the Hime Festival. These days the week-long Him Utsob will bring you the color of life with dance, song, drama and many creative events from evening till late night. By coming to Jahangirnagar University, you will not only focus on an education, but experience the journey of a lifetime.
