NFS, when translated into Bengali, means "Food Technology and Nutrition Science." Now what is it? When you hear the subject of NFS, you might think that it is a cooking-related topic. But in fact, it is not. Many people have this idea because they do not have a clear understanding of the subject.
We all dream of getting a job in a Multinational Company. NFS is one such subject through which you can fulfill this dream. Don't you believe it?? If you work, you will be rich! You have to earn money, you have to build a family. Surely you have some idea about the salary of someone who works in a Multinational Company. And I didn't even mention the demand in the marriage market.
NFS subject has total 2 parts 'Food Technology' and 'Nutrition Science'. So by studying this subject you will be able to make yourself skilled in 2 sectors. And in the case of job also you will be able to apply for 2 types of jobs. I am giving a link to know all the Job Companies/Job Fields related to Food Technology in our country.

Come and visit, I hope you will get at least a little idea about the job sector of this subject in our country. This is a sample of technology basis job field. That too in a third world country like ours. I have not mentioned the demand and job market of this subject in the developed world.
In our country, universities generally offer (i) Four years BS(Hons.),
(ii) One year M.S
(iii) M.Phil and
(iv) Ph.D. course can be done.
Apart from this, a two-year MS course is conducted in NSFT.
Must have passed higher secondary school with a science background.
The subject is offered in public universities,
1. Institute Of Nutrition And Food Science, University of Dhaka
2. Food engineering, Mymensingh Agricultural University.
3. Sylhet Shahjalal University food & tea technology.
4. Kustia Islamic University Applied Nutrition & Food Technology (Evening MS is available here. Details http://anftiu.ac.bd)
5. Jessore University of Technology
6. Tangail: Maulana Bhashani University of Science and Technology (can do MS).
7. Chittagong Veterinary University food science & technology.
8. Dinajpur Haji Danesh University of Technology Food Technology.
9. Patuakhali University of Technology Food Technology | Nutrition and Food Technology
Now let's take a look at what kind of job a food technologist does in these organizations?
1) Food processing
2) Food machinery
3) Food packaging
4) Ingredient manufacturing, instrumentation and control
5) Firms design and build food processing plants
6) Consulting firms, government agencies, pharmaceutical companies and health care firms etc.
I have given some idea about the jobs in the technology sector. I need to say something about nutrition, right?? There is nothing much to say, actually, I will just share the comments of a doctor. When I got the opportunity to study at this university, I consulted a familiar doctor to discuss the issues here. He told me this,
"You have tried for medical, Allah has given you another chance to treat people." Seeing me looking at him in surprise, he said, "In USA only 30% of Diabetic Patients can get perfect treatment. An MBBS Doctor can't prescribe him properly. Because DIET, DISCIPLINE & DRUGS are the proper treatment for a diabetic patient and only a nutritionist can do that properly. So my son don't get upset anymore and be cheer up"
At this stage, let's take a look at what you need to study in food technology and nutritional science:
1) Introduction of Food technology and Nutrition Science
2) Inorganic & physical Chemistry
3) Organic Chemistry
4) Food Chemistry
5) Biochemistry
6) Human Anatomy
7) Human physiology
8) Food Microbiology
9) Food Technology
10) Technology of Food Processing
11) Technology of food preservation
12) Food laws and quality control of food and beverage.
The main responsibility of the work in this sector is to ensure that each step of the food processing process is completed in a proper manner and that the food quality of each food is ensured as per the BSTI guidelines. Basically, it is the job of a professional food technologist, technician or engineer to keep an eye on whether the raw materials are being supplied properly, whether there are any gaps in the processing, whether the necessary equipment is working properly, whether they are being looked after properly, whether any unwanted substances are accidentally mixed in the food, whether the nutritional value of the food is maintained. The main categories of work are manufacturing, processing, preservation, packaging and canning. Apart from this, some of the different positions that can be worked in are discussed below.
1. Organic Chemist: Supervises the processing of food from raw materials.
2. Biochemist: The flavor, texture, storage, and quality of food must be monitored.
3. Analytical Chemistry: Focus on the quality of food products.
4. Home Economist: They also need to know about dietetics, and look at the nutritional and health benefits of food.
5. Engineer: The food processing industry requires chemical, mechanical, industrial, electrical, civil, and agricultural engineers to plan, design, improve, maintain, and supervise processing systems.
6. Research Scientist: These types of researchers and scientists conduct research and development work on all experiments related to food processing, i.e. food production, quality, taste, nutritional value, etc.
7. Managers and accountants: They are responsible for administrative and financial tasks.
In line with other developed countries around the world, the number of food processing industries in Bangladesh is rapidly increasing day by day, and job opportunities in this profession are increasing in tandem.
1. After earning a degree in Food Science and Technology, there are opportunities to work in the country's major food processing industries.
2. There are also opportunities to work in international organizations such as various NGOs such as FAO, FDA, WHO, UNDP, etc.
3. There are job opportunities in this profession beyond the borders of the country and abroad.
4. Job opportunities may be available in food research laboratories, food wholesalers, hospitals, catering companies, retailers, restaurants, etc.
5. The type of subject that is required to study to get a job in this type of organization is Home Science (with specialization in Food Technology, Nutrition, or Food Services Management).
6. In addition, studying bacteriology or toxicology also provides opportunities to work in the packaging industry.
7. Again, if you study organic chemistry, biochemistry, or analytical chemistry, you can also get a job opportunity in a food technological laboratory or quality control department.
8. In addition, there are several other types of jobs in this industry. For example, bakery, meat processing and packing, poultry, fish processing and packing, food batch maker, food cooking machine operator and tender, food roasting and baking machine operator, etc.
In the Food Science and Technology profession, an officer can initially get a salary of 25 thousand or more taka. However, depending on the institution, the salary can be 40 thousand taka or more. The salary will increase gradually during employment. Moreover, there are attractive salaries and allowances in this profession abroad as well.
It is possible to build a career in all professions if you have a strong willpower. In this case, you can easily build your career in the Food Science and Technology profession. Because some studies have shown that the number of food processing industries in Bangladesh is increasing rapidly day by day. And in this way, the number of food processing industries will continue to increase day by day in line with all countries of the world. Moreover, the food processing sector in Bangladesh will grow by more than 10 percent in the next 2 to 3 years. So you can understand how promising a career in Food Science and Technology is for you.
There are many job opportunities in such private organizations working on public health. At the private level Nutritionists and dieticians are available in well-established hospitals. There are also positions for dieticians in government hospitals. There are opportunities to work in various nutrition projects and the public health sector at the government level.
