Three members of a family died and three others went missing when a boat carrying 25 people capsized in the Karnaphuli last afternoon.
The boat capsized in the Karnaphuli around as it could not tackle sudden whirlwind, said Sohel Rana, officer-in-charge of Karnaphuli River Police Station. Three dead bodies have been recovered till now and they are identified as Sabina, 28, her two daughters and Maya 6. Persons who are still missing are identified as Sabina's niece Shahida, 20, -- Meem, 8, Shahida's husband Deloar, 35, and their daughter, aged three months, reports UNB. Some people were able to swim ashore while some others were rescued by a fishing trawler that was passing by. They were crossing the river to attend a wedding ceremony. Shahida's husband Shahjalal, 35, managed to swim ashore in the incident, the said, adding that two teams of divers from Fire Service and Civil Defence were trying to rescue the victims.
