(d) Where do we learn etiquette and manners from? Why do we have to be careful about etiquette and manners?

a) 'Etiquette' refers to the rules of correct behavior in society whereas, 'manners' refer to the rules and customs of a certain society or culture which are considered to be polite behavior. Both of them vary from society to society.

b) We have been taught to be respectful to our elders and visitors, to be polite and modest in company.

c) Manner can be good or bad, depending on the customs and regulations of behavior in a certain society. For example: it is considered to be a bad manner when one speaks with a mouth full of food.

d) We learn etiquette and manners from various social institutions, such as, from our parents, families, schools, colleges or professional bodies. We have to be careful about etiquette and manners as we are social beings who have to consider the effect of our behaviour on others.
