The bride’s father gifts land, money, and various other property to the couple to make sure they don’t face trouble while settling up with their new life. But over time, it became more of a compulsion and a social issue in our society. The process was intended to benefit the newly wedded couple to start a new life. But it is now an evil side of our society, as the bride’s family is under immense pressure to pay a certain sum of money along with durables.

The dowry system has put the bride in a very delicate position. The groom’s family looks at her as an asset, and she is a liability for the bride’s family. The entire interpretation of dowry is under the question of is it a way of suppressing women? Domestic violence is often found in various parts of the nation related to dowry, and sadly most of them go unreported. Dowry means transferring wealth in any form from the bride’s family to the groom’s. It is a way to showcase love and care and help the newly wedded couple start their journey without any difficulty. But with time, it has found different meanings, and as a result, young girls around the nation suffer from various crimes and domestic violence.

The Dowry system has been in our country since ever, and even after the legal intervention, it is getting harder to eradicate it for so long. The simple process of transfer of poverty has become a deep-rooted problem for our society. And many tough girls and their families have to go through hardship every time in our country.

Dowry is a punishable crime in our nation. To protect young girls from various dowry-related injustice, reports against dowry are given priority. But most crimes are never reported, the domestic violence is at an increasing rate. The lack of proper education and awareness is a major reason for these increasing crimes. Many young girls are even pushed to the face of death for dowry.
