Comprehension/ Passage
Observe the dilemma of the fungus; it is a plant, but it possesses no chlorophyll. While all other plants put the sun’s energy to work for them combining the nutrients of ground and air into body structure of ground and air into body plane put the sun's energy to work for them combining the nutrients of ground and air into body structure, the chlorophyll-less fungus must look elsewhere for an energy supply. It finds it in those other plants which, having received their energy free from the sun, relinquish it at some point in their cycle either to other animals (like us humans)or to fungi.
In this search for energy, the fungus has become the earth's major source of rot and decay. Wherever you see mold forming on a piece of bread, or a pile of leaves turning to compost, or a blown-down tree becoming pulp on the ground, you are watching a fungus eating. Without fungus action, the earth would be piled high with dead plant life of past centuries. In fact, certain plants which contain resins that are toxic to fungi will last indefinitely; specimens of the redwood, for instance, can still be found resting of the forest floor centuries after having been blown down.
The author uses the world 'dilemma' to indicate that --
The word 'dilemma' generally refers to a situation where a difficult choice has to be made between two or more alternatives, especially ones that are equally undesirable. In this context, it does not refer to the fungus being helpful or harmful, the function of chlorophyll, or the understanding of a fungus's life. Instead, it most likely refers to the complex or puzzling nature of the fungus's biological laws, which may present a 'dilemma' or challenge to understand.

An intellectual is one who is enlightened; and being an enlightened person, he has to give light to others who are in need of it. In every society, we find intellectuals such as philosophers, scientists, scholars, writers, and critics; and they, as enlightened men, have a great responsibility towards society. In a society, all cannot be intellectuals. If a time comes when all are intellectuals it would be a blessed time indeed; but intellectuals have the great responsibility of guiding others on to the right path. If today we have our civilisation and culture, if we have orders and security in life, and if our life is better that that of our primitive ancestors, it is because the intellectuals, from time to time, have been guiding humanity on the path of felicity and amity. Therefore, the intellectual should come out of his ivory tower and try to elevate others to his level."
What does the phrase 'ivory tower' in the extract denote?
English speaking people have never been really homogeneous in their use of the English language. Today, if you travel extensively in the British Isles, you notice differences in pronunciation and vocabulary from shire and shire, or even if your ear is good enough, from town to town. In London alone you can find tremendous diversity in the varieties of English. In the United States, likewise, the language differs somewhat from place to place and from one social ""class"" to another. Many New Yorkers don't pronounce words as Chicagoans do, and in Denver people don't sound like those in Chicago. In some parts of the Southwest, Spanish influence shows up in the vocabulary; elsewhere, Germans and others have affected the English language."

His charismatic leadership and unflinching patriotism helped Bangladesh turn into a strong unit and qualify to the quarter finals for the first time in their history in 2015 World Cup Cricket. That too by knocking out England, the birth-land of the game and one of the favourites for the title. This sprit is induced by the brave skipper who led the Bangladesh team to beat top-class opponents like Pakistan, India and South Africa and lose narrowly to England in subsequent bilateral home series. He inspired the Tigers in qualifying to the semi-finals of 2017 edition of Champions Trophy by trumping the strong outfit of New Zealand. Moreover, Bangladesh under Mashrafe's fearless leadership fought neck to neck with Sri Lanka on the latter's home turf in 2017. The Tigers won more matches than lose under his shrewd stewardship, thus making the most successful of Bangladesh captains."
