Subject-Verb Agreement

Which one is the correct form of sentence?

The word 'Mathematics' is singular in nature despite ending in 's'. Therefore, it takes the verb 'is', not 'are'. Also, 'a' is needed before 'subject' for correct article usage. Hence, 'Mathematics is a subject of study in any school' is correct.
